Common questions about knives

How do I take care of my EKA knife in the best way?

On each product page, you will find specific care instructions for that particular knife model. Our general care advice is as follows:

  • Clean your knife with warm water and a small amount of dish soap.
  • To prevent rust and corrosion, always dry your knife thoroughly and store it safely in a dry knife sheath.
  • For folding knives, we recommend regular lubrication of all moving parts using a natural oil or paraffin oil.
  • To maintain the sharpness of the blade, use a Sharpening steel regularly. You can find them in our shop.

What should you consider when choosing a knife?

Selecting the right knife involves several considerations. The most important factor is a comfortable fit in your hand. Choose a size that feels natural for you. Blade shape and grind are also crucial. A flat grind, for instance, is often prefered for food preparation and hunting, while a Scandinavian grind is typically better suited for woodworking. However, these are general guidelines, as many hunters enjoy using knives with a Scandinavian grind for outdoor activities. Additionally, a flat grind knife can be perfectly effective for carving.

Which knives goes well with fire steel?

Selected knife models feature a 90-degree spine grind, making them ideal for use with a fire steel. You can also choose from our knife collection that comes with a fire steel included. If your knife does not have a sharp spine, you can easily sharpen it yourself to create a suitable striking surface for a fire steel.

Why is a folding knife a good choice?

Folding knives offer a convenient and lightweight option for those seeking a compact cutting tool. While they may not possess the same strength as fixed-blade knives, their flexibility makes them well-suited for everyday tasks. EKA1882 has a rich history of crafting folding knives, spanning over 140 years. Explore our extensive collection of folding knives, designed for hunting, outdoor adventures and everyday use.

What is a hunting knife?

A high-quality hunting knife is indispensable for tackling the various tasks encountered during a hunt. Whether you're skinning game, preparing meat or tending to your campsite, a reliable knife is essential. EKA1882 offers a diverse range of hunting knives, including our innovative Swedblade combination models. These versatile knives allow you to seamlessly switch between a gutting and skinning blade. Select from the G3 or G4 models with a Scandinavian grind, or our newest offerings, the G5 and G6, featuring a drop-point blade with a flat grind.

What is a Full-tang knife?

A full-tang knife is characterized by a blade that is continuous with the handle, providing a single piece of steel from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle.

Can my EKA1882 knife rust?

All knives are susceptible to corrosion if not properly cared for. EKA1882 utilizes high-quality Swedish steel with a high degree of corrosion resistance. Substances with a low pH level can accelerate the corrosion process. To prevent rust, it is essential to thoroughly clean and dry the knife after every use.

Can I wash my knife in the dishwasher?

To maintain the sharpness and quality of your knives, hand washing is recommended. Dishwashers can dull knives due to the abrasive action of detergents and the presence of salt. Additionally, the high heat in dishwashers can loosen wooden handles.

What sharpening angle do knives from EKA1882 have?
